Perchance to Sleep

I tumble into bed barely strength to pull the clothes from my aching body.

Thoughts consumed with the days chores, done, yet left undone.

My mind mesmerized by the clankety clank, music of a squeaky fan.

Too tired to shower, a drop of sweat etches it’s self down a naked breast.

You reach out to touch me, your hand ignites flames on my skin.

Summer moonlight streams blindingly through open windows,

Heat so oppressive it hurts to breathe.

Consuming need for sleep overwhelms my thoughts and desires of love.

I drift off as the mornings first rays break tentatively filtering through the forest canopy.

Sleep, finally restful sleep.  Puppy kisses, milk breath.

The day begins again.
