The Bass Player
Stage light shimmers, your silver hair tumbles down your face
I watch entranced as your fingers embrace your bass
Skintight leathers caress the curve of your thighs
Your voice smooth as velvet on a moonlit winters night
A moment of recognition and a gentle nod
Then back to work, it’s on with the job
A quick break, a beer and a joke
Then it’s out back, a quick smoke and a toke.
Then back on stage, will this be the night?
Last call, last song, and up comes the light
It’s pack up time, only four hours more
Pick up fifty dollars then it’s out the door
Tired and wired you tumble into bed
As the sun comes up, music fills your head
You can’t sleep, this is the life
Of a musician and a musician’s wife.
